As a key north-south artery in Jinan's "eight horizontal and eight vertical" expressway network, the Phoenix Yellow River Bridge South Extension Project has attracted much attention. As of now, the three major constraints the project faced in its early stages—land acquisition and demolition, utility relocation, and traffic diversion—have been basically completed. Construction of the substructure, including pile foundations and piers, is more than halfway complete, and the project has fully shifted into an efficient phase of physical construction.

The project starts at the north portal of the Phoenix Road Tunnel in the south, runs north along Phoenix Road to connect with the Phoenix Yellow River Bridge, and then extends east to link with Yaoqiang Airport, with a total length of about 25.4 kilometers. Along the route, the project must cross multiple busy railways, rivers, and major urban arterial roads, making it impossible to interrupt traffic during construction. The project team has comprehensively applied swivel construction (crossing over railways), incremental launching (crossing over arterial roads and tram lines), and cantilever casting (crossing over expressways and rivers) to achieve rapid formation of the superstructure without closing traffic.
The project aims to be fully completed and open to traffic by the end of June 2027. Once completed, it will become the "main artery" of the expressway network in eastern Jinan, greatly alleviating traffic pressure along the route, significantly shortening travel time between the main urban area, the start-up area, and the airport, and providing strong support for residents' travel and the provincial capital's "northward development" strategy.
