On April 16, the Xin'an Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Bridge, a key ferry-to-bridge replacement project in Jiangsu Province and a key urban construction project in Pizhou City, fully launched pile foundation construction.

The Xin'an Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Bridge starts in Liulou Village, Chefu Mountain Town, connects to the Cheliu Line, a township road in Chefu Mountain Town, on its north side, crosses the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to the south, and ends directly at the village road in Erba Village, Suyang Mountain Town. After the project is completed, the four ferries of Xin'an, Liulou, Sunzhuang, and Liujilou along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal will be simultaneously abolished, completely ending the history of residents on both banks relying on ferries for travel, fundamentally eliminating hidden safety hazards in waterborne travel, connecting the "last mile" of residents' travel, and achieving safe, smooth, and interconnected traffic on both sides of the canal. It is of great significance for facilitating residents' travel, improving the regional road network structure, and strengthening north-south traffic connections in Pizhou.

The route of this project has a total length of 2,232.68 meters, including a bridge length of 609.36 meters and approach roads on both sides with a length of 1,623.32 meters. The bridge design load adopts the Highway-I standard. The main bridge is 121.36 meters long and 14.7 meters wide, adopting a simply supported through steel truss structure to achieve a single span across the river; the approach bridge is 488 meters long with a total width of 12.5 meters; the approach roads on both sides are built to Class IV highway standards with a pavement width of 7 meters, which can fully meet the daily travel, production and living, and vehicle passage needs of residents on both banks, balancing practicality and safety.

According to the plan, the Xin'an Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal Bridge will complete all pile foundation construction by the end of 2026, complete the main bridge structure by the end of October 2027, and be completed and opened to traffic in March 2028. The construction unit, the Pizhou Municipal Transport Bureau, will closely monitor each key milestone, strictly ensure project quality, safety production, and construction progress, and make every effort to build a popular, tested, high-quality project that satisfies the people.
