Over 11,000 Pile Foundations Completed in Under 3 Months at Foshan-Zhaoqing Station on the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway

On December 22, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway officially opened for operation. As a key component of the coastal corridor of the national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, this "golden artery" cuts travel time from Guangzhou to Zhanjiang from 3 hours to about 1.5 hours, bringing western Guangdong closer to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

This leap across time and space is underpinned by the solid support of the largest single underground station building on the entire line—Fozhao Station. This "underground megastructure," deeply buried beneath the airport terminal and the ground transportation center, has a building area of 225,600 square meters and a station yard scale of 6 platforms and 14 tracks. It is not only the core node of "air-rail intermodal transport" but also embodies the essence of intelligent manufacturing in Guangdong's infrastructure construction.

Fozhao Station is the largest single underground station building on the entire Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway. This underground station has a grand planned layout: the concourse is on the first basement level and the platforms are on the second basement level. The main station building covers 225,600 square meters, with a station yard scale of 6 platforms and 14 tracks. In the future, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway, the Zhuhai-Zhaoqing High-Speed Railway, and the Shenzhen-Nanning High-Speed Railway will converge here, jointly forming a three-dimensional transportation network with the Pearl River Delta Hub (Guangzhou New) Airport and intercity rail, and becoming the core hub of "air-rail intermodal transport" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Underground construction is extremely difficult, akin to "embroidery" within a "geological maze." Fozhao Station must bear the enormous loads of the airport above, and more than 11,000 pile foundations need to be completed within 3 months; both the construction density and the pace of progress have set industry records. This is not only a race against time but also an extreme challenge to construction organization capabilities.
