Recently, on the banks of the Zi River in Ziyang District, Yiyang City, the first pile foundation of the main pier of the Ganxigang Bridge on the Lizi Waterway was successfully drilled. This marks the project's official entry into a new stage of advance construction, pressing the "start button" for a key waterway project of the Ministry of Transport and Hunan Province's 14th Five-Year Plan.

The demolition and reconstruction project of the Ganxigang Bridge on the Lizi Waterway is the core component of the Class III waterway construction from Baisha to Ganxigang on the Lizi Waterway. Located in Ziyang District, Yiyang City, the project connects Provincial Roads S221 and S319 and has a total length of 1.52 kilometers. The newly built Ganxigang Grand Bridge is 914.5 meters long in total, with its main bridge being a 265-meter through-type concrete-filled steel tubular tied-arch bridge. Upon completion of the new bridge, the original Ganxigang Bridge will be demolished. The total construction period is approximately 900 calendar days.

Since entering the site, the project team has confronted multiple challenges, including land acquisition and demolition, relocation of utility poles and lines, temporary land use, and construction in the lake area. Guided by the principles of "racing against time for the schedule, ensuring quality, and optimizing services," the team has made every effort to advance preliminary work, proactively built bridges for communication among multiple parties, and efficiently completed the preliminary procedures for land acquisition, demolition, and pipeline relocation, creating favorable conditions for smooth construction. In construction preparation, the team focused on technological empowerment. In response to the complex geological conditions of the lake area and the structural characteristics of the through-type concrete-filled steel tubular tied-arch bridge, it organized multiple rounds of expert review and special technical briefings to optimize the construction plan. A technical team led by senior engineers steadily advanced preliminary work such as trial pile drilling, laying the foundation for formal construction.

At present, the project has completed preliminary preparations, temporary facilities, and trial pile drilling, and has entered the substantive construction stage. Once completed, the project will open up the connection to the Lizi Waterway, shore up the shortcomings of Hunan's waterway transport, help shape the high-grade waterway network in the Dongting Lake region, reduce logistics costs, and improve waterway transport efficiency, providing important support for Hunan Province to build a comprehensive transportation hub and promote the integration of the regional economy into the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
