Recently, the Tanahu Hydropower Station in Nepal reached a key milestone — the rotor of Unit 1 was successfully hoisted into place. As the largest storage-type hydropower station in western Nepal, the project has officially entered the electromechanical installation phase, laying the foundation for subsequent grid connection and power generation.
As the "heart" of the hydroelectric generating unit, the Unit 1 rotor has a diameter of 4.7 meters, an effective height of 2.2 meters, and a total lifting weight of 184 tons. Faced with challenges such as a complex construction environment, limited hoisting space, and stringent European and American standards, the project team used the main hook of a 200-ton bridge crane together with specialized tools to carry out the operation. They completed bridge crane testing and inspections of the lifting gear and rotor ahead of schedule, conducted simulation and verification for key processes such as magnetic yoke stacking and magnetic pole mounting, and optimized the plan by drawing on the experience of the Unit 2 rotor hoisting. In response to delayed transportation and material shortages during the rainy season, the project ensured safe and efficient hoisting operations by stockpiling key materials and adjusting work sequences.
Once completed, the project will alleviate power shortages in Nepal during the dry season, achieve stable year-round power supply for the region, meet the electricity demand of cities such as Pokhara, and boost local economic development.
