The Bauer Foundation Construction Equipment Customer Event was successfully held in Beijing on August 23. More than 100 guests from all over the country first visited the cutoff wall construction site of Section 2 of the Lu-San Section of the Yongding River Comprehensive Improvement Project, which is under general contracting by Beijing Jinhe Water Affairs Construction Group Co., Ltd. Afterwards, the "Bauer Diaphragm Wall Construction Equipment and Method Technology Exchange Conference" was held at the Conference Center of the Beijing Yuanbo Hotel.

      This event centered on the application of Bauer equipment in the cutoff wall construction of the Yongding River Comprehensive Improvement Project. Bauer invited guests to visit the cutoff wall construction site of the Lu-San Section. Bauer technical personnel introduced the construction background, project overview, project objectives, geological conditions and other project information on site, and jointly exchanged and discussed relevant construction technologies.

      The Yongding River basin has a total area of 47,000 km², of which the basin area within Beijing is about 3,200 km², accounting for 6.7% of the total basin area. The Yongding River has a total length of 747 km, of which the Beijing section is about 170 km long, flowing through five districts: Mentougou, Shijingshan, Fengtai, Daxing and Fangshan. According to different river channel characteristics and flood control features, it is divided into the Shanzia Section, the Lu-San Section and the Lu-Liang Section. The main river channel below Sanjiadian has been reinforced and regulated many times, resulting in flood control works including 122 km of levees, the Lugouqiao Flood Diversion Hub, the flood detention reservoir, and the Liuzhuang Flood Diversion Gate.

      Lu-San Section: refers to the stretch from Lugouqiao to Sanjiadian Sluice, with a channel length of 17.4 km. The left bank protects the central urban area of Beijing, and the right bank protects the core area of the Mentougou New City. This section of the channel has left the mountainous area and entered low mountainous and plain areas; the river width gradually expands, with a levee spacing of 500–1,500 m, and the riverbed terrain varies considerably, with a longitudinal channel slope of about 2.65‰. In 2011, the ecological construction of the channel was completed, creating stepped water surfaces such as Mencheng Lake and Lianshi Lake.

      The direct protection target of the left levee of the Lu-San Section of the Yongding River is the central urban area of Beijing, which is the concentrated bearing area of the national political center, cultural center, international exchange center and scientific and technological innovation center, and a key area for building a world-class harmonious and livable capital. The left levee of the Lu-San Section of the Yongding River is the top priority of the Yongding River flood control system, with a design protection standard of a once-in-10,000-year event, the only one of its kind in the country.

The cutoff wall of the Lu-San Section consists of two diaphragm walls and an intermediate partition wall. During construction, it must penetrate a concrete front apron 50 to 80 cm thick.

    The cutoff wall is 800 mm thick and 23 m deep. In the sections where construction has started, the strata contain large boulders. The photo above shows the Bauer GB 80S and GB 50 hydraulic grabs of Beijing Fufeng Company. During construction in this section, a large number of boulders were excavated, the largest of which measured 0.85 x 0.95 x 1.7 m.
