Recently, good news came from the Shantou Bay Subsea Tunnel of the Shantou-Shanwei Railway, constructed by China Railway 14th Bureau Group: the sea-area mining section has been successfully excavated to the dismantling cavern position, marking another phased victory for the Shantou Bay Subsea Tunnel and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of the dismantling cavern and the 'mining-to-shield reception' works.

The project owner specially sent a letter of commendation to China Railway 14th Bureau Group, recognizing the project team's achievements in carrying forward a spirit of hard work and actively resolving construction organization challenges in the sea-area mining section.

The Shantou Bay Subsea Tunnel is China's first subsea tunnel with a design speed of 350 km/h. With a total length of 9,781 meters, complex geological structures and hydrological conditions, a maximum burial depth of 180 meters, and a tunnel body crossing 13 fault zones, it carries high construction safety risks and is a key and difficult control project of the railway.

Since the launch of the themed labor competition 'Work Hard for 120 Days to Sprint Toward the Annual Target,' construction efficiency on the project has further improved. To accelerate construction progress, the project department took the labor competition as a lever, raced against time to advance the schedule, and made every effort to tackle difficulties, ensuring orderly breakthroughs in key tasks. Facing complex and changing site conditions, the project department flexibly adjusted the construction plan, dynamically adjusted the two construction methods, and identified the optimal construction solution. In conjunction with the labor competition, it strengthened assessment and incentives, refined assessment indicators down to each individual, and fostered a good atmosphere in which everyone strives for excellence.

Up to now, the onshore mining section has been successfully holed through, with 555 meters remaining in the sea section, including 377 meters in the sea-area mining section and 178 meters in the shield section.

The Shantou-Shanwei Railway project connects the Guangzhou-Shanwei Railway to the west and the Zhangzhou-Shantou Railway to the east. It is an important part of the coastal high-speed railway corridor in the national 'Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal' high-speed railway network. Once completed and opened to traffic, it will further shorten travel time between Shantou and the Pearl River Delta region.
