On the 2nd, the reporter learned from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) that China's first five-star 5G factory—the ZTE Nanjing Smart Binjiang 5G Factory (hereinafter referred to as the "Binjiang Factory")—has been completed, setting a new benchmark for the deep integration and comprehensive application of 5G technology in the electronic equipment manufacturing industry.
On August 25, 2022, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Guidelines for the Construction of 5G Fully Connected Factories." In December 2023, CAICT officially launched 5G factory certification work. The Binjiang Factory, which proposed "using 5G to manufacture 5G," became the first 5G factory to pass five-star certification.
According to reports, the 5G network coverage rate within the Binjiang Factory has reached 100%. In scenarios with high requirements for 5G network performance, such as remote equipment control, the factory has actively explored dedicated 5G frequency and private network construction solutions. The networking rate of on-site equipment at the factory exceeds 97%, and the networking rate of key equipment has reached 100%, of which the 5G networking rate is as high as 89.3%, and all wireless devices have been upgraded to 5G. The application of 5G technology has been strengthened throughout the entire process, including R&D and design, production and manufacturing, testing and monitoring, warehousing and logistics, and operations management. The construction of "5G + Industrial Internet" scenarios has covered 20 typical application scenarios released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Driven by the construction of the 5G factory, the Binjiang Factory has significantly improved its automation efficiency, process optimization level, and lean production scale. Coupled with market demand, the factory's total output value increased by 41%, per capita output value increased by 81%, the delivery cycle was shortened from 20 days to 14 days, carbon emissions were reduced by 29%, and energy consumption per unit product was reduced by 19%.
Currently, nearly 3,000 5G factories are under construction in China. The construction of 5G factories fully demonstrates the potential of 5G technology in improving production efficiency, reducing operating costs, and promoting green development. It not only represents the direction of China's manufacturing digital transformation but also provides a Chinese solution for the global development of "5G + Industrial Internet."
