On October 25, the 18th Li Siguang Geological Science Award Ceremony was held at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Wang Guanghua, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Director of the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Dai Houliang, Chairman and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of China National Petroleum Corporation, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Li Jinfa, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Director of the China Geological Survey. Academicians Zheng Mianping, Guo Xusheng, Hou Zengqian, Yang Jingsui, Deng Jun, Sun Youhong and others attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Guo Xusheng, Deputy Chief Geologist of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Deputy Director of the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, read out the "Decision on Awarding the 18th Li Siguang Geological Science Award," granting the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Field Award to 8 individuals: Song Mingshui, Zhou Mingling, Wang Bingzhang, Zhou Xinhuai, Zhu Jinqi, Li Guangming, Zhang Shishu, and Zhi Dongming; the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Research Award to 5 individuals: Cao Yingchang, He Hongping, Lü Qingtian, Zhu Dicheng, and Xiao Keyan; and the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Teacher Award to 2 individuals: Xie Yuling and Liu Jianxin. Song Mingshui, Senior Engineer at Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Geophysics Co., Ltd., Researcher Lü Qingtian of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and Professor Xie Yuling of the University of Science and Technology Beijing delivered speeches on behalf of the Field Award, Research Award, and Teacher Award winners, respectively. Comrade Hou Zengqian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Researcher at the Institute of Geology of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, and former Deputy Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, delivered a speech as the representative of the academicians.

On behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, Wang Guanghua extended warm congratulations to the winners of the 18th Li Siguang Geological Science Award, and expressed the hope that geological science and technology workers in the new era will inherit and carry forward the spirit of Li Siguang, focus on enhancing the capacity to safeguard national energy and resource security, strive to overcome "bottleneck" scientific and technological problems in resources and environment, and make greater contributions to domestic exploration and development and the increase of reserves and production of important energy and mineral resources. First, inherit and carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's unwavering patriotic sentiment and devote fully to the main battlefield of the new round of strategic action for mineral exploration breakthroughs. Second, inherit and carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's scientific character of upholding truth, face the world's geological science and technology frontiers, and strive to solve "bottleneck" problems. Third, inherit and carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's strong and persistent awareness of innovation and accelerate the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening. Fourth, inherit and carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's tireless exemplary demeanor as a teacher and cultivate and build a team of young geological science and technology talents. Fifth, inherit and carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's rigorous and pragmatic work style, carry forward the spirit of scientists, and strive to create achievements that can stand the test of practice, the people, and history.

Decision on Awarding the 18th Li Siguang Geological Science Award

As the highest geological award for geological workers nationwide, the Li Siguang Geological Science Award has been awarded 18 times to date, with a total of 283 winners across various categories. A total of 66 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering have successively won the Li Siguang Geological Science Award, among whom 40 winners were elected as academicians of the two academies after winning the award (accounting for 15% of the winners). The Li Siguang Geological Science Award has become an industry award with important influence in the geological community and even in society as a whole.

Relevant responsible comrades from the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Committee, relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the China Geological Survey, the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the Li Siguang Geological Science Award Foundation, the Li Siguang Memorial Hall, as well as relevant universities and social organizations in the geological industry attended the meeting.

To commemorate the famous Chinese scientist, educator, social activist, and outstanding geologist Mr. Li Siguang, to inherit and carry forward Mr. Li Siguang's unwavering patriotic sentiment, scientific character of upholding truth, strong and persistent awareness of innovation, tireless exemplary demeanor as a teacher, and rigorous and pragmatic work style, and to encourage the broad masses of geological science and technology workers to keep the motherland in mind, scale new heights, support and encourage younger scholars, and forge ahead with vigor, so as to make new and greater contributions to safeguarding national energy and resource security, building a world science and technology power, and realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
