On October 31, the Shuanghe section of the Qinglan Expressway reconstruction and expansion project, in which China Railway 14th Bureau Group participated in construction, was completed and opened to traffic. This is the country's first long-life asphalt pavement expressway, adopting a new-generation asphalt pavement technology that extends the pavement service life to 30 years, double that of conventional pavements, while reducing carbon emissions by more than 5,000 tons. It can effectively lower expressway investment and operation and maintenance costs and extend the service life of the route.

The Shuanghe section opened to traffic this time is located at the starting point of the entire Qinglan Expressway and has a design speed of 100 km/h. It is a cross-sea corridor connecting the three districts on both sides of Jiaozhou Bay in Qingdao, and will link the core area of the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Zone, providing strong support for building a new highland of opening-up. After opening, motorists can cross Jiaozhou Bay in two minutes, achieving rapid access between the main urban area and Jiaodong International Airport.

The project focused on building a "Safe Century Quality Project," with emphasis on exploring safe, efficient, green and durable technologies. During construction, the project adopted smart control and monitoring systems to achieve full-process management and monitoring, setting a benchmark for safe construction and green construction of expressways and injecting new momentum into Shandong Province's road construction "leading the way."

The Nvgukou cross-sea mega bridge undertaken by China Railway 14th Bureau Group is a controlling project of the entire line. Composed of a newly built bridge and the reinforcement of the old bridge, it crosses the shallow waters of Jiaozhou Bay, where the geology is soft and sea conditions are complex. The builders adopted prefabricated assembly techniques and high-performance marine concrete, greatly shortening offshore operation time and effectively extending the bridge's service life. In the reinforcement and renovation of the old bridge, a number of technologies were rated as internationally advanced, setting a domestic record for construction speed of a similar kind.

The Qinglan Expressway is the east-west trunk line of the national expressway network and an important component of the Ji-Qing corridor among Shandong Province's "three horizontal and four vertical" comprehensive transport corridors. It plays an important role in strengthening the coordination and balance of national corridor transport and promoting the coordinated development of the Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone. The Shuangbu-Hetao section reconstruction and expansion project of the Qinglan Expressway achieves efficient connection with the Qingdao New Airport Expressway and the Huanwan Avenue, greatly enhancing the distribution capacity of the surrounding road network. It is of great significance for promoting the linked development around Jiaozhou Bay in the Shandong Peninsula, improving people's wellbeing, and advancing high-quality development of the SCO Demonstration Zone.
