On October 25, with the third segment of the LZ14 column on the left side of the Baishui River Bridge hoisted into place, all spandrel columns of the Baishui River Bridge on the Naqing No. 5 Contract Section, constructed by the Road & Bridge Group under Guizhou Communications Construction Group, were successfully hoisted, bringing the project one step closer to the goal of full bridge opening to traffic.

The main bridge of the Baishui River Bridge adopts a 340-meter-span deck-type concrete-filled steel tubular variable-section truss arch, with a total length of 833.5 meters and a deck height of 303 meters above the valley floor, ranking 46th among the world's highest bridges. The spandrel columns of the bridge adopt a bent-type hollow rectangular thin-walled steel box structure, with each column limb in the transverse direction fixed to the steel tube arch ribs and connected by cross braces. The columns are installed by factory segmental fabrication and processing, followed by on-site segmental hoisting and welding. Depending on column height, column cross-sections of 1500×800 mm, 1300×800 mm and 1100×800 mm are adopted, all with a wall thickness of 16 mm. Each column consists of several 8-meter standard segments and non-standard segments shorter than 8 meters; the whole bridge has a total of 56 column base segments, 100 standard segments and 56 non-standard segments, which are divided into 42 combined segments according to hoisting weight and hoisting length, achieving millimeter-level precision hoisting.

The Naqing No. 5 Contract Section overcame difficulties and adverse weather factors. Under the premise of ensuring safety and quality, all processes were closely linked, and node targets such as arch abutment excavation and pouring, cantilever assembly and closure of the main arch, and self-compacting concrete filling inside the tubes were completed against the clock, until the target node of spandrel column hoisting was successfully achieved. At present, construction progress of the entire Baishui River Bridge has reached 86%, and the main structure of the bridge is expected to be completed in the first half of 2024.
