Recently, good news arrived from Colombia across the Pacific: Sunward's super equipment, the ZYJ1060BK-II pre-boring static pile driver (PDP drilling rig), is fully supporting the construction of Bogotá Metro Line 1, and the project is progressing smoothly. Overall construction progress on Line 1 has reached 24%, and auxiliary facilities are being built in an orderly manner, marking that Bogotá's public transport is about to enter a new stage of rapid development and that infrastructure construction has taken an important step forward.

Bogotá Metro Line 1 is the first metro line built in Colombia's capital, with a total length of 23.96 kilometers, including the construction of 16 stations and the procurement of 30 six-car metro trains. The project was officially awarded in October 2019 to a Chinese consortium formed by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and Xi'an Rail Transit Group Co., Ltd. The project involves a total of US$5.016 billion, with a 28-year concession period, and is currently the largest concession project in all of Latin America.

After winning the bid, China Harbour conducted a detailed feasibility study on precast pile construction for the stratum and geology together with Sunward. The foundation portion of the project uses precast concrete pipe piles with a diameter of 1 meter as the main group pile foundation. The ZYJ1060BK-II pre-boring static pile driver, featuring Sunward's pioneering PDP method, can penetrate hard interlayers and is suitable for foundation construction in sandy geology.

In the first half of 2023, three Sunward ZYJ1060BK-II pre-boring static pile drivers departed from Changshu Port in China and arrived at the Port of Buenaventura. At present, the equipment is operating efficiently and ensuring construction progress. The equipment has driven piles to a maximum depth of 45 meters, averaging 2 piles per shift, penetrating dense sand layers more than 7 meters thick; in many sections there are double sand layers and abundant groundwater, making construction highly difficult. Sunward and China Harbour overcame layer upon layer of difficulties, carefully studied the site conditions, and quickly developed an effective set of construction techniques to ensure that foundation construction proceeds smoothly according to the expected schedule and standards.
