On October 9, the "Fuma" shield machine for the eastern extension of Fuzhou Metro Line 2 was successfully launched at the intermediate ventilation shaft in the Yangli–Kuiqi section. This marks a key milestone in the construction of the eastern extension of Fuzhou Metro Line 2, creating favorable conditions for subsequent shield tunneling. The Yangli–Kuiqi shield-driven section of the eastern extension of Line 2 is approximately 3,110 meters long.

The section starts from the intermediate ventilation shaft and runs north along the direction of the Gushan Tunnel, passing beneath the Kuiqi Interchange Viaduct and the pedestrian bridge at the west portal of the Gushan Tunnel, and crossing above the Gushan water-replenishment tunnel and other important risk sources. The shield machine passes at close range beneath the Fuma Road box culvert in upper-soft lower-hard composite strata before finally arriving at Yangli Station for reception; environmental risks during shield construction are relatively high.
In addition, the geological conditions along this section are complex and excavation is difficult; some portions are prone to water ingress, and upper-soft lower-hard strata are also present in the shield reception section, making shield construction highly challenging.

To ensure smooth construction, Fuzhou Metro ultimately selected the earth pressure/TBM dual-mode shield method. The "Fuma" shield machine launched at the intermediate ventilation shaft in the Yangli–Kuiqi section is an earth pressure/TBM dual-mode shield machine with a total weight of 510 tonnes and a designed maximum advance speed of 80 millimeters per minute, offering notable advantages such as safe excavation and efficient tunneling.
