The Chongqi Highway-Railway Yangtze River Bridge is a key controlling node project of the Shanghai-Nanjing-Hefei High-Speed Railway. It is currently the world's largest-span double-tower, double-cable-plane highway-railway dual-purpose ballastless-track cable-stayed bridge, and also the world's first cable-stayed bridge with a first-system load-bearing steel truss composite girder.

The piling area for the XCMG rotary drilling rigs lies in deep overburden and special rock and soil layers, in a fluvial alluvial landform. The water area has fast currents and a relatively complex navigation environment, and driving the steel casings is difficult, which places higher demands on rotary drilling rig construction.

Therefore, the main pier pile foundations on both banks of the bridge consist of 76 bored cast-in-place piles with a diameter of 2.5 meters and a pile length of 120 meters, with the drilling depth of each pile foundation reaching 140 meters. Since entering the site, a total of seven XCMG super-large-tonnage rotary drilling rigs—XR700E, XR600E, XR550D, and XR580HD—have carried out integrated assembly-line operations covering drilling, hole cleaning, cage lowering, and cast-in-place pile concreting, ensuring completion of one pile per day.

During construction, the XCMG XR700E and XR600E rotary drilling rigs, as the main models, have a maximum drilling diameter of 4 m and maximum drilling depths of 160 m and 150 m respectively, perfectly meeting the constructor's requirements.

It is understood that once completed, the Chongqi Highway-Railway Yangtze River Bridge will become an important north-south high-speed railway river-crossing corridor, and is of great significance for serving the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and promoting high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta.
